Curious Kids' Museum summer fun:

Experiment, create and have fun with Family Programs every day at Curious Kids' Museum during the summer and on Saturdays during the school year.  Programs in science, history, culture and technology happen every Saturday. Scroll down to see what Wee Discover is offering! Wee Discover is a special Early Childhood Development program offered every Wednesday morning throughout the school year at Curious Kids' Museum. Wee Discover features a pre-school story and hands-on science fun make-and-take to help kids ages 2-5 discover the world around them and develop a love of reading and creativity.  Summer brings a "MESS" to Curious Kids' Museum with daily activities and science experiments with our new "Summer MESS" program. These programs are free with admission and for Curious Kids’ members.

NEW for Summer 2019!

We're offering summer educational programming in the basment this year for all our guests, in place of camps. True to our mission to offer hands-on learning and fun to as many children and adults that we can, we have decided to try something new and utilize the lower level fully for more activities for all to explore. Free with admission and for Curious Kids’ members!

Make a "Summer MESS" at Curious Kids' Museum!

                                     June 10 - August 10, 2019

Monday - Saturday, 10:30 AM - 4:00PM and Sunday, 10:30AM-3:00PM.                                                                                                                      MESS is an acronym for for Math, Engineering, Science and Stuff! Based off standard STEM learning, MESS allows children to make connections between the following subjects and their world through hands-on experimentation. Utilizing both areas on the basement level, CKM will offer practical and “try it” activities and related crafts and presentations/demonstrations. Free with admission and for Curious Kids’ members!

Each week will have a theme with related activities, experiments and art projects. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

Can You Hear Me Now? and I Can’t Believe My Eyes! Sight and sound are similar in that both are forms of energy that travel in waves. Light can travel through empty space, but sound waves need matter to travel. Light and sound concepts may be taught using the following experiments: Flip Sticks - Dancing Rainbows - Jumping Beans - Reflective Writing - Perspective Drawing - Refraction and Bending Light - Bouncing Light - Pig in Bowl Illusion - Ping Pong Balls and Tuning Forks - Musical Instruments, Vibrations - Pitch (Strings and Cans) - Shaking Rice - Sound in Space – Communication

Slippery Slope and What Goes Up, Must Come Down Slope is how steep a line is; it is also called gradient. Slide is moving along a surface while maintaining contact with the surface.  Gravity has a pull on items that go into the air, which brings them back to the ground. Incline Planes and Ramps – The Cutting Wedge – Turn of the Screw – Lever and Fulcrum – Pulleys – Marble Works – Hoop Flyers – Dragon Flyers – Paper Helicopters – Wheel and Axle – Balloon Rockets

Opposites Attract, If You Build It-They Will Come and Launch Time Different building designs and different building materials will determine how strong a structure is. Magnets can either attract or repel items containing certain materials. Catapults have been used for thousands of years to launch different projectiles. Setting up towers, catapults and magnets utilize many different science, math and engineering concepts. DaVinci Catapults – Marshmallow and Toothpick Towers – DaVinci Blocks – Foil and Craft Stick Towers – Cups – Racing Cars – Repel or Attract – Towers from Boards – Straw Towers – Index Card Towers – Clothes Pin and Spoon Catapults – Magnetic Maze – Magnetic Painting – Magnetic Force Through Different Materials

Drop It Like It’s Hot and Water You Waiting For? Surface tension is one of water’s most important properties. It is the reason that water collects in drops, but it is also why water can travel up a plant stem, or get to your cells through the smallest blood vessels. You can experiment with surface tension using just a few household items. Measuring Surface Tension – Regatta Race, Building Boats – How Many Drops to Fill a Dot? – Making Water Defy Gravity – Marble Painting – Slime – Clouds in a Jar – Water Drop Race – Surface Tension on a Penny – Gravity Drop – Balancing Forks – Bubble Snake – Moon Sand

WEE DISCOVER FOR THE LITTLE ONES!

Offered Wednesday mornings during the school year -except Christmas and Spring Breaks.

Wee Discover is held Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at Curious Kids’ Museum for preschoolers based on the concepts of “Mother Goose Science” for young children. The program helps children discover the world around them by linking reading a different story each week with hands-on learning play experiences about different themes. Children exercise body motion, hand-eye coordination, and grasp how the many things in the world around us really work by experiencing them. Parents enjoy sharing this experience with their children and meeting other parents. These fun programs are free with memberships or paid admission. Wee Discover is not held during Christmas Vacation or Spring Break. Free with CKM admission or Membership.

Wee Discover will take a break for the summer. It will resume on Wed., Sept. 12. Be sure to check out the daily programs we're offering during the summer at Curious Kids' Museum!
